38 Most Dog Friendly Stores in the US (2022 Edition)

Do you like to take your dog shopping with you but are never sure which stores are dog friendly?

Today I will be showing you 38 different retail, home decor, and hardware stores that will all welcome your dog with open arms.

Taking your dog shopping with you is not only fun, but a great way to improve your dog’s socialization skills in new environments.

When bringing your dog to any store, make sure they are always leashed, well behaved, and that they go potty before they go inside to prevent any accidents.

If your dog is very hyper and doesn’t respect the personal space of strangers, you may want to work on training a little more before bringing them into a public store.

Lastly, always make sure to call beforehand and double check that it’s ok to bring your dog to the store.

Many stores leave it up to the manager on duty, so call to ask and make sure you won’t run into any problems.

dog friendly stores Abercrombie & Fitch

Abercrombie and Fitch

Established in 1892 in Manhattan, this American clothing retailer focuses on casual clothing for teens and young adults.

Their website states “Our intention is to make everyone feel comfortable, confident and stress-free—like the start of a long weekend.”.

Part of being comfortable means being able to take your dog with you, which is totally possible at this retail store.

Abercrombie and Fitch is dog-friendly in a majority of their locations, just make sure to call beforehand, especially if the store is in a mall that may have different rules.

Ace Hardware

Did you know that Ace Hardware has over 5,000 stores around the world?

And that the majority of those stores are independently owned and operated by local entrepreneurs?

To make it even better, Ace is a dog friendly store as long as your dog is leashed at all times.

Ace stores offer a wide variety of paint, lawn and garden tools, local niche services and virtually anything the big hardware stores would have.

So head to Ace and let your dog help you pick out your next paint color. 😉

Ann Taylor dog friendly stores

Ann Taylor

In 1962, an entrepreneur and an innovator, Roslyn S. Jaffe saw the opportunity to provide wear-to-work dresses and clothing for the working woman.

This was during a time in the U.S. when women were entering the workforce in greater numbers and there were few options for buying more stylish and affordable workplace women’s clothing.

Almost 60 years later, Ann Taylor has evolved into a women’s retail powerhouse for business casual fashion.

To add to their greatness, most Ann Taylor locations are dog friendly as long as your dog is leashed and well-behaved. 🙂

This US retail store offers an assortment of clothing, jewelry, home furniture, decoration, beauty, and gifts.

With more than 200 locations worldwide, many women shop here for gifts and cool home decor.

Anthropologie says that they leave the pet policy up to the manager on duty, so make sure to call the location beforehand to make sure you don’t run into any problems.

Autozone dog friendly stores

Having problems with your car while your dog is in the backseat? Head to AutoZone!

Most AutoZone locations allow dogs inside the store, but some do not due to having hazardous chemicals in the store, so call ahead to speak to a representative and make sure your dog will be allowed.

Banana Republic

Established in 1978, this American accessory retailer opened in Mill Valley California as “a shop for people with a passion for safari and expedition wear from far away places.”

Unfortunately after decades of booming business, hundreds of Banana Republic locations are closing due to the pandemic and increased online shopping.

However, the remaining locations welcome dogs into the store as long as they’re leased and well behaved.

Maybe you can get matching safari shirts for you and your dog on the clearance rack!

Bass Pro Shops dog friendly stores

Bass Pro Shops

Are you shopping for hunting, camping, or fishing gear?

Starting in 1972 by selling fishing tackle out of the back of his father’s store, Johnny Morris expanded and earned a reputation as one of the most visionary and influential retailers of the last 50 years.

Want to take your hunting buddy with you? Bass Pro Shops is a dog friendly store as long as your dog is leashed the whole time.

They might even bark at the taxidermy animals around the store while they’re there!

Bath and Body Works

Founded in 1990, Bath & Body works at one point was the largest bath product retailer in the United States.

Bath & Body Works only allows dogs small enough to fit into a bag or shopping cart, so no big dogs here. 🙁

Bed Bath and Beyond dog friendly stores

Bed, Bath & Beyond

Do you know what the Beyond stands for in Bed, Bath & Beyond?

Obviously it’s for their love of dogs because this retail store loves having pups in their stores.

In fact, they love it so much that one of the CEO’s in charge of the Manhattan locations created a “canine cart” with a padded bottom so dogs don’t hurt their feet on the gridded bottom of the carts.

Don’t you wish all stores did this?!

Bloomingdale’s is an American luxury department store chain founded in 1861.

Another victim of the retail apocalypse, this retail giant is set to close 45 more stores by mid 2021.

However, the stores that will remain open are still pet friendly as long as your dog is leashed and well behaved.

That means your dog should have “sit”, “down”, and “stay” mastered!

Free People dog friendly stores

Free People

Free People is an American bohemian apparel and lifestyle retail company that sells women’s clothing, accessories, shoes, intimates, and swimwear.

They even dabble in beauty, wellness products, and crystals!

This store has dozens of locations across the US, and they are all dog friendly! However with the pandemic going on I would call ahead to make sure the manager on duty is ok with it.

The GAP & Old Navy

GAP, like its partner Banana Republic, is dog friendly as long as they are leashed and remain close to you.

This American Icon of a company is expected to close over 175 US locations as a part of their mission to flee failing malls.

Two of the more widely known dog-friendly stores, Home Depot & Lowes are both big brand hardware stores that accept all sizes of dogs.

I’ve seen a Great Dane in the lighting section!

Even though these stores are known to be dog-friendly, I always call ahead anyway to make sure I won’t have a problem with any managers on duty when I’m there.

These should be obvious because they’re pet stores, but Petco and PetSmart are both great places to take your dog.

Since Cali doesn’t like dog parks, taking her to one of these stores is a great way to get her to socialize with other dogs without the direct physical contact.

There’s also nothing cuter than your dog picking out their own toys in the toy isle!

These stores are the only stores I wouldn’t call ahead to make sure it’s ok to bring a dog, because it always is!
